The two hardest parts of writing are starting and stopping… stopping being much harder. "Starting" consists of watching a lot of cable news, going for walks, cleaning the house, and generally feeling bad about yourself because you haven’t done anything all day. But stopping doesn’t happen just because it’s time for dinner, or to go to a party, or to go meet a friend. This annoys most people because they’re talking to you and you’re not listening at all because your brain is still obsessively writing the next scene or chapter, regardless of where you are physically. I mean, a runner doesn’t just come to a dead halt the precise moment he crosses the finish line, does he?
